Movie Monthly: The Sun is Also a Star

By Katelyn Smith & Ava Welsch

The Sun is also a Star is based on the romantic book by Nicola Yoon. The storyline, however cute, moves slowly in the movie. It was cast very well with Charles Melton as Daniel Bae and Yara Shahidi as Natasha Kingsley. The story is centered around two immigrant families, one of which is to be deported the next day, but a chance meeting will change the course of their futures.

Though the movie takes place over the course of a day and a half, it feels like a lifetime. The story features a roller coaster of emotions without the big, dramatic drops or lifts. It’s as if you’re on the tiny roller coaster for little kids. The sad portions were really not that sad, but apparently, EVERYONE else around us thought they were, according to all the sobbing.

However slow, the story was a cute and romantic endeavor. There were many heartwarming moments that made the audience swoon. The actors were extremely cute together which made it totally worth the $8.49.

In conclusion, Ava cries at every movie and she, unfortunately, could not muster a single tear. The movie was adorable and bearable, but unremarkable.

(Get it? The sun? It’s also a star.)
